Tara Wells had a strict relationship with words as an ABC radio producer and presenter. But the stories she was trained to tell with her Master of Arts in Journalism felt dry and dusty.

The exhaustion of having three children in three years made the words swim before her eyes and dance in her mind, until it was time to write them down as new, make-believe stories. Tara now infuses a love of the everyday into keenly observed picture books.

Working with her husband in their tourism business, her day-job is to transform years of tour commentary into tantalising stories about the history, culture and landscape of Sydney’s best coastal walks.

Tara is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the Australian Society of Authors and the Children’s Book Council of Australia.
